Christmas is a time we associate with happiness, fond memories, enjoyable get-togethers with friends and families and lots of presents around the tree. In many ways, how we commemorate Christmas now is the complete opposite of everything that first Christmas was; it was shrouded in darkness, a time of hardship and plagued by scandal from the first mention of Mary’s pregnancy. In truth, Christmas is both - joyous because of what it represents and dark because of the reality of the world into which Jesus was born. In church, we often only tell the Christmas story in one way - the happy, festive, joyous way. But for people who are struggling, facing loss, or lacking in supportive families, Christmas becomes just another reminder of everything they lack. The original Christmas story is a message of hope for all people in all circumstances. Re-discover the real Christmas story in all its gritty, beautiful reality.

The Advent season is a four-week period before Christmas that celebrates the anticipation and coming of Jesus Christ, the Messiah. The origin of "advent" is from the Latin word "adventus" which simply translates "coming" or "arrival".

Not only is the Christian meaning for preparation and celebration of the coming of Jesus Christ, his birth at Christmas, but also to celebrate the new life when someone accepts Jesus Christ as their Savior, and lastly, the anticipation of Jesus returning again.

It's our hope that you'll join us on the journey to Christmas. Through prayer, we can ask God to prepare our hearts the way He prepared all of history to receive the gift of His Son. Ask the Father to use this time during Advent to cut away the distractions and make your life a place of warmth and openness.
